Zeb Stafford grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where frequent trips to the Brooklyn Public Library unlocked a passion for storytelling and worldbuilding, an interest that later expanded toward board and video games. As his knowledge of game art expanded, Stafford’s interest in the process only increased, giving fresh direction and new clarity to his work. Now, he focuses his practice on bringing game-inspired art and fine art together to explore the boundaries between fantasy and reality through digital art, printmaking, and drawing. Stafford holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from the University of Rochester.
Zeb Stafford’s art practice explores storytelling, worldbuilding, and character. Anchored in both fantasy and reality, some of his works are designed to pull the products of his imagination into a realm where others can engage with them, while the others are meant to peel away the fantastical elements of his subjects to make them more approachable. To achieve this, Stafford uses printmaking, drawing, and digital art to explore that which is both functional and the aesthetic, then share his process and understanding. Stafford’s practice is guided by detailed mapping of systems and story points, driven by a curiosity for what could be.
